Beach of the Week: Whitehaven Beach, Australia

www.solescapes.com
White sand meets turquoise water at Whitehaven Beach in Queensland, Australia

The “White” in “Whitehaven” refers to the beach’s pure white sand.  Its pristine color comes from its composition of 98% silica.  This ultrafine sand has a velvety texture and does not retain heat, so strolling barefoot is a pleasure.  It’s the perfect complement to the clear, blue-green water.

Located on Whitsunday island off the coast of Queensland, Australia, Whitehaven Beach is a 4+ mile stretch of serenity.  Getting there is half the fun, since it’s only accessible by sea.  Book a tour on a catamaran, ferry, luxury yacht or power boat.  Many provide stops for lunch, snorkeling and other activities.  Or see Whitehaven from the air via a helicopter or seaplane tour; the view would be breathtaking!

What would your dream day trip to Whitehaven Beach look like?

Beach of the Week: Lanikai Beach, Oahu, Hawaii

www.solescapes.com
Breathtaking view of Mokulua Islands from Lanikai Beach in Oahua, Hawaii

The name says it all: “Lanikai” means “heavenly sea”  Beautiful and laid back, Lanikai is quintessential Hawaii.  The sand is white and fine, the water is blissfully turquoise, and the scenery is fantastic.  Gazing out over the water, you can see two islands in the distance, the Mokulua Islands.  The water here is shallow and calm, a perfect place to dip your toes or let your children play.  Kayak rentals are available nearby, so you can paddle out to the islands.  You may even spot some sea turtles en route!  Lanikai Beach does not have any facilities or amenities, so be sure to bring a picnic to enjoy while you partake of the breathtaking view.
