Beach of the Week: Whitehaven Beach, Australia

www.solescapes.com
White sand meets turquoise water at Whitehaven Beach in Queensland, Australia

The “White” in “Whitehaven” refers to the beach’s pure white sand.  Its pristine color comes from its composition of 98% silica.  This ultrafine sand has a velvety texture and does not retain heat, so strolling barefoot is a pleasure.  It’s the perfect complement to the clear, blue-green water.

Located on Whitsunday island off the coast of Queensland, Australia, Whitehaven Beach is a 4+ mile stretch of serenity.  Getting there is half the fun, since it’s only accessible by sea.  Book a tour on a catamaran, ferry, luxury yacht or power boat.  Many provide stops for lunch, snorkeling and other activities.  Or see Whitehaven from the air via a helicopter or seaplane tour; the view would be breathtaking!

What would your dream day trip to Whitehaven Beach look like?
